He soon became fascinated with that city's history and, in 1984, founded Londonborn Publications in order to write and produce Bummer & Lazarus: San Francisco's Famous Dogs, the true story of two stray dogs who roamed the streets in the 1860s.

Other books he has written and published are: Book design & production for the small publisher (1990), San Francisco Memoirs 1835-1851: Eyewitness accounts of the birth of a city (1994); More San Francisco Memoirs: 1852-1899, The ripening years (1996), and Three Fearful Days: San Francisco memoirs of the 1906 earthquake & fire (1998).
In 1991 Books Arts (San Francisco) published his Samuel Brannan, San Francisco's Pioneer Printer.

As a public speaker he has delighted audiences with slide presentations offering a unique insight into San Francisco's colorful past. In 1999 he received the Oscar Lewis Award in recognition of his contribution toward the preservation of the city's history.
